Palmetto State Park Details
The lush, green foliage of this state park makes it one of the more unique places to visit in Texas. Although the park only covers approximately 6-acres, it's teeming with marshy bogs, dense vegetation, and shrouds of dwarf palmetto trees. The park is also home to the flowing San Marcos River and the U-shaped Oxbow Lake, where visitors can go swimming, tubing, or canoeing. Prior to its opening in 1936, the land around the park was originally owned by private owners. However, the acreage was acquired by the City of Gonzolas, and the area was transformed into a public state park. In addition to water sports, visitors are also spoiled for choice when it comes to land-based activities. Hiking, cycling, bird viewing, and camping are all possible in the park. The park has decent amenities with biking, kayaking, and paddleboard rental facilities available. Entrance Fees - Adult: $3 Daily - Child 12 Years and Under: Free Reservations are available [online] (https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/palmetto-state-park/r/facilityDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200043&_ga=2.265164170.447085507.1618845916-917412064.1616861417) or by calling (512) 389-8900
