Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site Details
An homage to the 36th president of the United States, this fascinating park is part outdoor recreation and part historical site. It contains a living history museum (where you can see costumed actors performing farm tasks from the early 1900s), recreational facilities for sports, and numerous hiking paths and trails. The park was donated to the state by close friends of Lyndon B. Johnson to commemorate this life and achievements. The land was also used by several German families in the 1800s, who emigrated to the US for ranching and farming opportunities. Their homes are located on the property and can be explored during your visit. One of the key attractions in the park is the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm. There's also a visitor center which contains artifacts and memorabilia about the past president's life. After your tour, stop by the sports facilities to go for a swim in the Olympic-sized pool or play a round of tennis at one of their two courts. Reservations are available by calling (512) 389-8900
