The LBJ Ranch in the Texas Hill County west of Austin, Texas, served very prominently as the "Texas White House" of U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson during the 1960s. Now part of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, the ranch was also Johnson's office, retirement home and final resting place. Nearby Johnson City contains Johnson's boyhood home and a log cabin built by his grandfather. Still a working cattle ranch, the LBJ Ranch can be toured by car with a special permit from the park visitor center in Johnson City, or on ranger-guided bus tours. Highlights of a visit to the ranch include a reconstruction of Johnson's birthplace, the first school he attended, the Texas White House, and the family cemetery where he and his wife, Lady Bird, are buried.
