Hueco Tanks Details
Sandwiched between the Franklins Mountains and the Hueco Mountains sits this historically and culturally significant site. This area dates back over 10,000 years to Jornada Mogollon tribes, who left their mark on the mountains using pictographs. In fact, the tanks contain the largest collections of Native American rock paintings anywhere in North America. In addition to the granite mountains and paintings, this area also has pooled rock basins (heucos), desert flora, and an abundance of amphibian and aviation wildlife. Because the area is scattered with boulders and rock formations, this site is also a popular destination for rock climbing.
