Honey Creek State Natural Area Details
As part of the Guadalupe River State Park, this natural area is a preserved site centered around the tranquil Honey Creek. Here, you'll find an abundance of local wildlife as well as lush vegetation native to South-Central Texas. Around the creek, you'll find 125 million-year-old fossils and artifacts, and tools from settlers that once inhabited the area. In the mid-1800s, the land was owned by the Bavarian Doeppenschmidt family, who built a working livestock ranch. This was then passed to the Weidner family before being sold to the state in 1985. The only way to visit the park is by booking a guided tour with a ranger. You'll embark on a 2-mile trek along Honey Creek and through the groves of live oaks, Ashe junipers, and cypress trees.
