This National Natural Landmark flows for 30-miles through east-central Texas and connects 26 reservoirs to the mouth of the majestic Trinity River. Its banks are shrouded with wetlands and mixed pine forests, which provide an untouched habitat for some of the region's rarest creatures, including 48 species of fish, 61 types of reptiles, 34 species of mammals, and over 350 migratory birds. The creek is part of the 10,958-acre Gus Engeling Wildlife Management Area, which is tasked with conserving the land and protecting native flora and fauna.
