A birder's paradise, this park boasts over 360 species. Located along the banks of the Rio Grande, the park serves as a wildlife refuge. Congress authorized it as a Wildlife Corridor in 1978. The park is part of the World Birding Center, which is a network of nine different birding sites, set along a 120-mile historic river road along the Rio Grande Valley. The primary activity is exploring the 7 miles of trails and watching for wildlife. The trails are available for walking or biking or enjoy a tram tour run by the park rangers. The park has several primitive campsites available for overnight camping.
