Mount Roosevelt Trail Details
This trail may be short and easy (1.2 miles round trip), but it is a total classic. Located near the forest's northern boundary, Mount Roosevelt features an old castle known as Friendship Tower, which was built in 1919 by Seth Bullock, appointed forest supervisor by President Theodore Roosevelt. Bullock and Roosevelt were close friends, and Bullock built the tower to commemorate the Black Hills that the two men loved so dearly. Today there are five picnic tables scattered around the tower, making the hike a great family option. The trail is just 0.6 miles each way, with an elevation gain of 200 feet, but the views are not to be missed. The trailhead is located off of FSR 133, two miles after the intersection with U.S. Highway 85.
