Lady of the Woods Trail Details
Located behind the Steel Visitor Center at Park Headquarters, and across from the Castle Crest Wildflower trail, the 0.3-mile Lady of the Woods loop trail takes you to the historic "Lady of the Woods" sculpture. This unfinished sculpture, carved into a three-foot-high volcanic bolder nestled in the forest, was sculpted by Earl Russell Bush nearly 80 years ago. Bush was a doctor and a member of the work crew that built the original Rim Drive. He carved the boulder during his off days during that season; it was his first attempt at sculpture. The Lady of the Woods can be viewed as soon as winter snow melts in late June or early July. The moderate trail starts at the Munson Creek Bridge, where informational trail guides are available with descriptions of some other historical buildings and landmarks you'll see on your journey. The 0.3-mile loop gains roughly 100 feet of elevation and takes around 30-40 minutes.
