Discovery Point Trail Details
Discovery Point is the site where John Wesley Hillman first viewed Crater Lake in 1853. The parking lot for the viewpoint is at the intersection of the southern entrance road and West Rim Drive; walk on the paved path to access the trailhead for the hiking trail. The easy trail is 1.1 miles one-way, and gains about 100 feet as you go up to the 7,150-foot overlook, which earns you views of Crater Lake. Estimate about an hour to complete the entire hike.
