Discovery Point is the site where John Wesley Hillman first viewed Crater Lake in 1853. From the parking lot at the intersection of the southern entrance road and West Rim Drive, walk on the paved path to access the trailhead for the Discovery Point hiking trail. The easy trail is 1.1 miles one-way and gains about 100 feet, from 7,050 feet at the trailhead to 7,150-feet at the overlook, which earns you views of Crater Lake. Estimate about an hour to complete the entire hike.
