Rising Sun Campground Details
The Rising Sun Campground is located where "the mountains meet the prairies," near St. Mary Lake and six miles west of the St. Mary Visitor's Center on Going-to-the-Sun Road. A variety of campsites allow you to choose the privacy of the trees or open space to take advantage of cool winds. A section of this campground is generator free. There is potable water and restrooms with flush toilets and sinks with running water. Near the campground is a camp store, restaurant, and token-operated showers. The 84 sites are first-come first-serve, and cost $20 a night. The campground is open mid-June through mid-September. One campsite here is handicap-accessible. Rangers lead nightly programs here, and it's worth rising early to catch sunrises over Red Eagle Mountain. You can catch boat tours on nearby St. Mary Lake, which is the second largest lake in the park. For those not wanting to camp, you can stay at the Rising Sun Motor Inn and Cabins. The 72-unit property was built in 1940 and feature motel-style accommodations and rustic cabins. Rising Sun is a great place to hike and also catch the free shuttle service to travel Going-to-the-Sun Road.
