Kintla Lake Head Trail Details
Kintla Lake is considered one of the park's most remote frontcountry lakes. That means you get the perks of the backcountry — solitude, quiet and serenity — without the effort of lugging a giant backpack into the wilderness. If you want to go somewhere off the beaten path, this is it. Kintla Lake is located in the upper northwest section of Glacier, in an area near the Canadian border called the North Fork. It's a bit of a gnarly drive on a dirt road to get there, so you might want to plan to stay over. A small campground, with 13 sites that are rarely filled, sits at the edge of the lake. A hike around the lake traces the shore. The lake is non-motorized, so the only people you'll see on the water are paddlers. Remember, Glacier is grizzly country. Carry bear spray, make noise and travel in groups. The trailhead is at the Kintla Lake Campground.
