Kintla Lake Campground Details

Kintla Lake offers a remote camping experience while keeping you in the front country. It's located in the upper northwest section of the park, in an area known as the North Fork. The drive is slow and bumpy, and not recommended for RVs and trucks with trailers. But those willing to brave the road and travel the 40 miles from the West Entrance will be rewarded with solitude at a campground where the 13 sites are rarely filled. The campsites are on the edge of Kintla Lake, surrounded by trees and mountains. There are pit toilets and a hand-pump for potable water. The lake is non-motorized, so even the kayaking and canoeing is a quiet experience. Bring a fishing pole (and your fishing license) and cast for trout. You can also hike. Kintla Lake is a starting point for day hikes and extended backcountry adventures. Sites are on a first-come, first-served basis and cost $15 during the summer. The campground is open from mid-June to mid-September, and then through October but without water. Primitive camping, when and where there isn't potable water, costs $10 per night. Glacier is bear country, and black bears and grizzlies can frequent the campground. Food must be properly stored at all times.
