Harry Oveson Fishing Camp Details
This is the only commercial fishing camp remaining completely intact from before the Voyageurs area was a national park. Harry Oveson built the camp in the 1950s and spent around 30 years fishing for whitefish here. Today, the family's home, icehouse, and fish-processing building stand as a testament to the lifestyle of a commercial fisherman in the mid-1900s. The camp is located on an island just outside Cranberry Bay in Rainy Lake, near the northern shores of the Kabetogama Peninsula. The park service has added a dock, boardwalk, and picnic area for visitors.
