Ethno-botanical Garden Trail Details
The central focus of the trail is a garden of native plants. The garden was previously overrun by an invasive weed, and has now been restored to give visitors a sense of the park's original plant ecology. Interpretive signs provide information on the role that native and non-native species play in the park's ecosystem. At the end of the trail is an ancient Ojibwe campsite. You will learn about the seasonality of the different plants in the park, and how the seasonal availability of those plants affected the lives of the Native American tribes who lived here. Rangers offer daily informational hikes on this trail from 1:00 to 1:30 pm, June through September. During the winter this trail is also used for snowshoeing. The trail starts from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center.
