Jenny Lind Tower Details
Opera singer Jenny Lind, known as the Swedish Nightingale, was brought to Boston by promoter P.T. Barnum in the 1850s for a concert. The show was overbooked, so Lind -- not wanting to disappoint her fans -- gave a free performance from a tower at the Fitchberg Railroad Station. Years later, with the tower scheduled for demolition, a local property owner purchased the 55-foot granite structure and shipped it to Truro, where local legend now holds that the tower is haunted by Lind's ghost. You can see the tower best from the grounds of the Highland Links Golf Course or from the ocean.
