Sugarloaf Mountain Details
A 5.3-mile strenuous out-and-back hike. Best known as a ski resort, Sugarloaf Mountain is also a popular spot for outdoor recreation. As the second tallest peak in Maine, the summit is accessible via the Appalachian Trail and then the Sugarloaf Mountain Side Trail which connects with the summit. The Appalachian Trail used to pass over the summit here until the path was rerouted to accommodate the ski trails. The views are worth the effort with sweeping vistas of all sides of Maine's High Peaks Region. However, the difficulty of this hike can not be emphasized enough.
