The Beehive Details
The Beehive is one of the most prominent landmarks in the Sand Beach area of the park, a peak rising 520 feet on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island. The summit is accessible via a short (.8-mile) but strenuous trail that includes iron rungs on cliff ledges; needless to say, it's not well-suited for kids. Those who make the hike are rewarded with spectacular views of Sand Beach, however.
