Jordan Pond/Bubble Pond Loop Details
Trail Type: Difficult Distance: 8.6 miles This recent carriage road restoration project has a smooth gravel surface, many scenic features, and accessibility from Bar Harbor, making it a great day trip, even if it isn't a particularly long trail. To access the loop from Bar Harbor, begin on the Witch Pond Loop and follow the west side of Eagle Lake, taking a left at Post 8. The trail Jordan-Bubble Pond Loop begins at Post 7. Otherwise, this pretty trail departs from the Bubble Pond Parking Lot and follows the west shore of Bubble Pond. It travels 2.5 miles around the base of Pemetic Mountain through a pretty mixed-wood forest, and occasionally, travels over some long ascents and descents before junctioning with Post 17. The trail turns right and crosses the Park Loop Road shortly thereafter, bearing right again at post 16. From here, the trail nears the historic Jordan Pond House and crosses Jordan Stream near Post 15. Bearing right at Post 14, the trail begins a more difficult section, including a steady climb over the side of Penobscot Mountain, offering some distractingly good views of Jordan Pond and Jordan Cliffs below. Keeping right at Posts 10 and 8, the trail begins a long downhill descent to Post 7, where it turns right and returns to the Park Loop Road.
