Day Mountain Loop Details
Trail Type: Moderate Distance: 6.3 miles This shady, densely forested trail follows an old carriage road over varying terrain, offering the chance to climb up Day Mountain for spectacular views of the surrounding area. The trail begins at Jordan Pond House and turns left onto the Park Loop Road for 0.1 miles, until it passes the Jordan Pond Gatehouse and turns left onto the carriage road. From here, it runs along the southern side of Pemetic Mountain, remaining shaded by towering granite cliffs until reaching Post 17, where the trail turns right and crosses overnthe Park Loop Road. Post 37 marks the beginning of the loop, and the trail leads to the right, following the road around Day Mountain through an old forest of evergreens and deciduous trees that occasionally give way to pretty vistas. Traveling straight through the intersection at Post 38, the trail enters a few tough ascents and reaches Post 36. Here, the trail leads to the 583-foot summit of Day Mountain, offering fantastic views as the trail ascends. Return via the same trail, and take a left at Post 36, returning to Post 37 and the carriage road leading back to the Jordan Pond House. Note: sections of this trail are popular with horse-riders; cyclists should always yield to horses.
