Waimoku Falls Details
At the head of the Pipiwai Trail above 'Ohe'o Gulch is Waimoku Falls, the tallest waterfall on Maui. The hike to the falls passes the 185-foot Makahiku Falls as well, although it's difficult to see from the trail. The trail follows Pipiwai Stream and takes between 2.5 and five hours to get to Waimoku Falls, which drops 400 feet down a sheer lava-rock wall to a boulder-strewn pool. It's tempting to go stand under the cascade once you arrive, but look around at all the rocks and debris that has been swept over the cliff and you'll understand why the Park Service wants you to stay away from the falls.
