Kipahulu Campground Details
There are two car-accessible campgrounds inside Haleakala: Kipahulu and Hosmer Grove. Kipahulu Campground is near sea level in the Kipahulu area of the park on the wet, eastern side of the island, and accessible via the Hana Highway. The campground is about 1/8 mile south of the Kipahulu Visitor Center, overlooking ocean cliff and a short walk to ʻOheʻo Gulch. The campground features picnic tables, grills, and pit toilets, although no water is available. Drinking water is available in the Kipahulu Visitor Center restrooms. There are two general stores in Hana, about 10 miles away, where campers can purchase water and basic food supplies. Campers should also come prepared for rain, intense sun, and mosquitoes. Space is available at both campgrounds on a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations are accepted, and stays are capped at three nights per month in each campground. Kipahulu campground has a limit of 100 people, with a 12-person group limit.
