White Loop Details

If you are looking for a day hike within driving distance of downtown Atlanta, then look no further than this 4.1-mile loop at Sweetwater Creek State Park. This is an extension of the shorter 1-mile Red Trail, which takes you deeper into the untouched wilderness where you can enjoy scenic views of the white-water creek. Along the way, you will also come across the ruins of the New Manchester Mill. It was only active between 1849 and 1864, as Union forces set it on fire during a Civil War raid to oust the Confederate troops. With most of the building left to crumble, the foundation and retaining walls are an eerie reminding of what took place over 150 years ago.
