Pa-hay-okee Overlook Trail Details
Pa-hay-okee means "grassy waters" in Seminole, so it's only fitting that the Pa-hay-okee Overlook offers sweeping vistas of the Everglades' legendary "River of Grass." This overlook is a great place to see solution holes (holes in the limestone from decaying plant acids), which act as oases for wildlife when the water is scarce. It's also a great place to view the Shark River Slough, which is a very slowly moving freshwater river that flows into the Florida Bay. The overlook trail is wheelchair-accessible and .15 miles long and is located 13 miles west of the Ernest Coe Visitor Center.
