Flamingo Visitor Center Details
Unlike the park's other visitor centers, the Flamingo Visitor Center is nowhere near an entrance: in fact, it's 38 miles, and an hour's drive from the main entrance in Homestead. Despite its remote location on the shore of Florida Bay, however, this visitor center isn't a desolate outpost: it has educational displays, restrooms, and parking, and rangers are on hand to answer questions and help out with backcountry permits. The neighboring marina has a public boat ramp and a store, and the Buttonwood Cafe serves lunch and dinner daily during the busy winter season (it closes during the summer, but drinks and snacks are still available at the marina store). Hiking and canoeing trails are also located near the visitor center.
