Mandalay Shipwreck Details
Long Reef proved lethal for the _Mandalay_, a 112-foot, steel-hull auxiliary schooner bound for Miami from the Bahamas in 1966. Called the "red carpet ship of the Windjammer fleet" because of it rich mahogany, brass and ivory appointments and teak deck, the _Mandalay_ now rests in 20 feet of water and is one of the best shallow snorkel and dive sites in Biscayne National Park. Snorkel above or dive down to see the ship's remains, including the fuel tank, mast step, and water tanks. The _Mandalay_ is part of the Biscayne National Park Maritime Heritage Trail.
