If you've had your fill of the Florida sun, head to the park visitor center at Convoy Point. Inside you'll find a museum and exhibits that showcase the park's four ecosystems, as well as the film, "Biscayne National Park: A Spectrum of Life," which is a terrific introduction to the park. Works of contemporary local artists inspired by Biscayne National Park are on exhibit in a gallery, and everyone's invited to feel bones, feathers, corals, sponges and more at a touch table. You can talk to a park ranger to plan your visit, too. Outside, you can walk 1/4-mile along the Convoy Point jetty for a quick introduction to the landscape found in the park. You will also picnic tables and a boat launch for canoes and kayaks just outside the visitor center. No motorized boats are allowed to by launched from the Convoy Point ramp. The Dante Fascell Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter season, November to April, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the summer season, May to October. It is closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Convoy Point, where the visitor center is found, is open daily 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Holiday hours are New Year's Day, Noon to 5:30 p.m.; Thanksgiving, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Christmas, Noon to 5:30 p.m. The phone number for the visitor center is 305-230-1144.
