Wellington Ditch Trail Details
The Wellington Ditch Trail is an easy, mile-long, mostly level trail that takes hikers from the Montville Nature Trail to the southeastern end of the Pinon Flats Campground. You'll skirt along the foothills of the Sangre de Cristos in a sunny, arid, area. Expect to see some cactus and yucca as you hike. The Wellington Ditch Trail also has sweeping views of the vast sand dunes and Medano Creek. End at the campground and head back to where you started, or continue along the other trails from the campground to loop down to the dunes. This is a great choice for a hike on windy days, since this area of the park is naturally sheltered from blowing sand.
