The Montville Nature Trail is a half-mile, heavily trafficked loop trail that's perfect if you're visiting with small kids, have limited time, or are looking for a break from the dunes. The trail is short, easy, and travels through the woods. You'll see plenty of flowers blooming if you're visiting in late summer. The trail gains about 100 feet of elevation and has great views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the dune fields, and the San Luis Valley. The trail is used for hiking and biking, and can be accessed year-round. Head about 1/4 mile past the entrance to the Visitor Center to access the trailhead, which is located on the right side of the road at the Montville Parking Area. The trail begins on the east side of the parking lot.
