The rugged 14,000-foot peaks of San Juan Mountains are in full view as you travel along this scenic byway. Wind through 5 million acres of jaw-dropping beauty as you navigate around the Uncompahgre and San Juan National Forests, stopping off at historic villages, deserted ghost towns, and ancient pueblos scattered around the region. The route is over 230 miles long, so it is best if you spend one or two full days on the road to fully sink your teeth into the different sights and landmarks. Do not miss the highlight of the drive the stretch between Silverton and Ouray. Affectionately referred to as the Million Dollar Highway, this 12-mile path twists and turns along the Uncompahgre Gorge boasting as you can imagine, million-dollar views.
