Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

Travel like your ancestors once did with a scenic journey on this historic railroad. Although it was originally used to transport silver and gold from the San Juan mines, it is now primarily used for tourism purposes. However, it has been in continuous operation since 1881 and still has several steam locomotives in rotation. The Cascade Canyon Route is a scenic 5-hour journey that takes you across canyons and mountains that would otherwise be inaccessible to vehicles and hikers. You can also take the train 45-miles to Silverton which travels along the same route it did over 120 years ago.
