When visiting Golden, you can head up to Lookout Mountain Park, where you will find the grave of Buffalo Bill, as well as a spectacular view over downtown Denver. Or you can pull over in Evergreen to spend the afternoon hiking along with the pine trees or fishing in the nearby brooks.
