Rail Creek (W7) Details
Locally, the creek is better known as Rail Creek, named for the nearby trees that were used to create spilt rails for fences. During winters with heavy snow, this becomes an ungroomed ski run which descends from the Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area. The trail was originally cut back in the late 1920s in preparation for hosting the Olympics. Unfortunately for the Curry Company, the ski area operators at the time, the Olympics ended up being held at Lake Placid, N.Y. Roadside marker: W7
