Pull off in the Crescent Meadow parking lot for a quick 1.8, 2 hour round-trip hike around the stunning Crescent Meadow. This loop trail is spectacular in the spring, allowing you to take in the wildflowers beginning to bloom and abundant wildlife. Crescent Meadow also offers you (and the kids!) the opportunity to explore Log Meadow. Here you'll find the former home of Hale Tharp in a fallen Sequoia. Tharp built his cabin in the meadow in the 1860's, after being show of its existence by Yukut Native American guides. He lived in the cabin every summer, tending to his livestock, until the creation of the national park in 1890. You'll start hiking east from the south end of the parking lot on a shared paved trail for those heading tot he High Sierra trail. After coming to the split, stay to the left to explore Crescent Meadow. To find the trailhead, follow Generals Highway to Crescent Meadow Road, which is just south of the Giant Forest Museum. Continue past Moro Rock for three miles and you will be at the roads end and parking area for Crescent Meadow.
