Moro Rock Details
Moro Rock is a large granite dome located in the heart of Sequoia National Park between Giant Forest and Crescent Meadow. It is a favorite of rock climbers, so expect to see daring individuals attempting to climb its face and explore all of its cracks and crevices. If you did not bring your climbing gear, you can can ascend to the top of Moro Rock, via a 400-step, 1/4-mile-long staircase for a spectacular view of the Great Western Divide and the western part of the park. The poured stairs were part of a 1930s Civilian Conversation Corps project to help visitors (like you!) be able to experience the top of the rock. The current day stairs were designed to be a part of the rock and replaced the original 1917 wooden stairs that deteriorated shortly after installation.
