Elam Horse Camp Loop Details
Open to horseback riding, the 20-mile Elam Loop Trail is part of a network of horse trails that traverse the ridges southeast of Orick. The trails begin at the Orick Rodeo Grounds and provide access to the Elam Creek Horse Camp, where users can camp alongside the creek. The hike starts by following the MacArthur Creek Loop, but the Elam Loop extends further south and west, allowing users to connect to the 44 Creek Loop, as well. Elam Camp has three campsites as well as picnic tables, bear-proof lockers, fire pits, a toilet, and a corral. A free backcountry permit is required to camp here. The shortest route from the rodeo grounds to the campsite is six miles in one direction. The campsite can also be accessed via a three-mile route from the Redwood Creek Trailhead, but this is only open during the summer months.
