Cluster Lakes Loop Details

The 11-mile Cluster Lakes Loop doesn't offer the dramatic scenery of some other trails in Lassen. However, the trail does visit 13 lakes and ponds and crosses relatively flat plateaus, making it an awesome option for those wanting a longer but entirely manageable hike. The lakes differ in size, shape, and color. The first two miles get the most traffic, in addition to a half-mile section on the far side of the loop that's part of the Pacific Crest Trail. For the most part, the trail is pretty wooded, although about a third of the forest has been burned by a wildfire. You'll find wildflowers along the sides of the lakes and in drainage waterways. Take the loop clockwise if you prefer the least-interesting section at the beginning of your hike. Lakes pop up regularly further into the hike. Begin at the midpoint of the scenic drive at Summit Lake. Park at the day-use lot on the north side of the lake. The signed trailhead is .3 miles north at the ranger station.
