La Purisima Mission State Historic Park Details

This beautifully restored Spanish mission is an authentic glimpse into life during the 18th and 19th-centuries. Although it was established in 1787 by Father Presidente Fermin de Lasuen, the original mission was unfortunately destroyed in an earthquake. It was rebuilt several years later and refurbished by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941. Then buildings have been fully restored, including the church, blacksmith shop, and living quarters. There is also a visitor center with a small museum and information about the missions turbulent history.
