Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site Details

The Navajo of northeastern Arizona were the rare Native American tribe allowed to return to their ancestral lands after having been exiled to a reservation. With the historic "Long Walk of the Navajo" completed, John Lorenzo Hubbard established a trading post in 1878 to facilitate commerce between the Navajo tribe and local settlers. A peaceful meeting ground between two cultures, the trading post stayed in the Hubbell family until 1965 and remains a thriving business operation. Park visitors can shop for Native American art and other goods at the store, tour the Hubbell home with its collection of artifacts, see craft demonstrations and attend periodic art auctions and farmer's markets.
