Mount Churchill Details

Mount Churchill is the fourth largest volcano in the United States. As one of the ice-covered stratovolcanoes in the park, Mt. Churchill reaches over 15,000 feet though this peak is not as iconic as others due to its low prominence next to its neighbor Mt. Bona. Mount Churchill is often climbed as a part of a longer expedition including Mt. Bona. Ski-equipped planes can land on the Klutlan Glacier at 10,000 feet to start a trip up the mountain. The peak was named in 1965 by the Alaska State Legislature for the English statesman, Winston Churchill.
