Eskdale Mill Details

Although it's not known exactly when grain milling began in this location, Eskdale Mill's recorded history begins in 1294, when an entry in estate records mentions it by name. The central structure of the present-day mill is thought to date from around 1547, when wool was also processed there. Set on the banks of Whillan Beck, the mill gained a second waterwheel in the 18th century, and continued to mill grain until the 1930s. First opened to the public in 1976, visitors today can see the wooden machinery of the mill, still intact. In the small town of Boot, the mill is open for visitors only on some days; check [here for more details](http://eskdalemill.co.uk/contact.html).
