Pilot Pond Details

Continuing along the Bow Valley Parkway, stop by Pilot Pond, isolated from any other bodies of water. Along your drive, you'll come upon a dip in the rolling landscape of the Hillsdale Slide, rock and gravel that were deposited when the last glaciers retreated from Bow Valley, and Pilot Pond. The pond remained fish-less for thousands of years, until it was stocked with rainbow and brook trout from 1926 to 1988 to appease visiting fisherman. Since 1988, the fish have been removed and the native salamanders have re-staked their claim to the pond's shoreline.
