Information Building Details
Found on Banff Avenue in Banff National Park, the Information Building was originally built in 1939-40 as an auditorium used by the Banff School of Fine Arts; it was also known as the Former Auditorium-School. The two-story building was a good example of the development of education and training in the arts in the 1930s, and was built by funds obtained under the Public Works Construction Act of 1934 to help with Depression-relief. Donald Cameron, the director of the Banff School of Fine Arts from 1936-1969, is associated with the building as well. Today, the building serves as a major interpretive center for Banff National Park, and is readily recognizable as a public facility to both visitors and residents alike. The Information Buidling is listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register, and is a Federal Heritage Building.
