Mud Lake Canoe Loop Details
This trail takes you inland through mangroves, connecting Buttonwood Canal, Coot Bay, and Mud Lake. The trail is best if started at Coot Bay right off the main park road: a beautiful cut-through takes you across a mangrove hammock that's well worth the paddle. Mud Lake is not a misnomer: its water are dark and murky. Once you reach Mud Lake, follow the markers to the Bear Lake Canoe Trail. You'll have to portage about 200 yards after canoeing this trail to get to the Buttonwood Canal. After the portage, head back through the canal towards Coot Bay. This completes the loop. Be wary of bugs in the summer and low waters in the winter. It's best to call the Flamingo Visitor Center for updates on the trails. Flamingo Visitor Center Phone: [239-695-2945](+12396952945)
