Mount Fremont Lookout Trail Details

This 5.6-mile trail climbs 900 feet between Sunrise (6,400 feet) and a fire lookout tower that was built in the 1930s. It passes through meadows and meanders over rocky crags en route. Keep an eye out for mountain goats and marmots on this popular half-day, out-and-back hike. Begin at the trailhead at the Sunrise Visitor Center parking lot and enjoy a moderate climb to the top of Sourdough Ridge. Take the Sourdough Ridge trail heading west to Frozen Lake, where you'll follow the trail north to Mount Fremont, cutting through meadows and traversing the west side of a rocky ridge for 1.3 miles to the lookout, a two-story cabin. From here, enjoy fabulous views of Mount Rainier, the Cascade Range, and the Olympic Mountains. With extra time, head north to the meadows of Grand Park.
