Dege Peak via Sourdough Ridge Trail Details
This hike through the subalpine meadows above Sunrise offers unbeatable postcard views of Mount Rainier, the Emmons Glacier, and peaks as far away as Mount Baker to the north. The only downer: you'll see Sunrise Road below you for most of the hike, but it's still a spectacular walk with 360-degree views from Dege Peak and an abundance of wildflowers on the way there. Find the Sourdough Ridge trailhead at the north side of the Sunrise parking lot, and start hiking north and then east until you reach the top of the ridge less than a mile away. Turn right at the junction and continue east on the ridge just below the crest until you reach a side trail at 1.9 miles that detours to Dege Peak at 7,006 feet. Enjoy the panoramic views from the peak, including Mount Adams and the Olympic Mountains on a clear day. Trail stats: 4 miles roundtrip; 600 feet of elevation gain; 2 hours.
