Tolmie Peak Trail Details

This trail runs from Mowich Lake in the northwest section of the park through the forest to Eunice Lake and the Tolmie Peak Lookout, and is well worth the calf-burning effort for the Rainier views. The trail is named after Dr. William Fraser Tolmie, who explored this area in 1833 looking for medicinal plants. To reach the trailhead at 4,950 feet, take State Route 165 to Mowich Lake Road and follow this bumpy gravel road about 17 miles until it dead-ends at a parking lot. The trail starts on the north side of the lake and leads through forest before a steep 2-mile climb to the old fire lookout via crystal-clear Eunice Lake, which is surrounded by beautiful alpine meadows.
