Dante's View Details

Come to Dante's View on a clear day and you'll have the rare opportunity to see both the lowest and highest points in the lower 48 United States: Badwater Basin (282 feet below sea level) and Mt. Whitney (14,405 feet above sea level). Even on an average day, however, the panorama from Dante' View is remarkable. From a perch 5,476 feet up you'll take in the sweep of Death Valley, the Owlshead and Funeral Mountains, the Panamint Range and Greenwater Ranges, and Telescope Peak, the high point of Death Valley National Park. The viewpoint is in the Black Mountains, with a paved access road (Dante's View Road) southeast of Furnace Creek on Highway 190. There's also a picnic area near the parking lot, and short trails leading to a variety of places to enjoy the view.
