Kantishna Details
Kantishna is literally the end of the road in Denali National Park -- it's the terminus of the Park Road and also home to all of the non-camping options for lodging within the park borders. The Kantishna Roadhouse, Denali Backcountry Lodge, and Camp Denali & the North Face Lodge are located here, and the Skyline Lodge also is nearby. Kantishna also has a small airport, used by bush pilots and tourist flights. This old gold-mining town also is the destination for the Kantishna Experience bus tours, an all-day journey along the 92-mile park road. Some private tours to Kantishna include a narrated tour of the park road and lunch at one of the lodges, followed by the option of taking the bus or a flight for the return trip. Kantishna also is the departure point for backcountry campers seeking to explore under the very shadow of Mt. McKinley. Speaking of the mountain, the park service estimates that 85 percent of people who stay for four nights in Kantishna will be able to see Mt. McKinley -- considerably better odds than you'd have just taking a Denali Park Road tour.
